"Nosedive"
is the first chapter in the third season of the British science-fiction
series called Black Mirror. The directors wanted
to do a social criticism of the
obsession that our society have of rating and punctuating the others with the
technology. Everyone seems to be happy to get as much stars as they can. But in
the reality, they aren’t enjoying anything of their life for fear of getting bad
marks. If we get this system of ratings, will the real society be happy?
The main
character is Lacie (by the actress Bryce Dallas Howard), a young woman obsessed
with her ratings, she does everything in her power to improve in the society by
her punctuations. In the episode she finds an opportunity to increase her stars
(the way they get the ratings) to change her lifestyle by a luxurious residence,
which she would only afford it if she increases her rate. But at the end, her desperation
leads her in a very low punctuation.
I really liked
the episode by the production and the message that we get with the plot. The chapter makes me thing about our society, if we didn’t create networks like:
Instagram, YouTube…, we would be more sociable and without the necessity of the
others attention.
